Whether your new to the computer world or a seasoned professional there will always be times when upgrades are necessary for your computer. With Apple’s new Mac Mini design a RAM upgrade for your new server couldn’t be simpler. Featuring a simple twist lock style base and laptop style clip-in memory, the new Mac Mini is hassle free to work on. Keep in mind a few important tips before attempting a memory upgrade:

The latest Mac Mini’s from mid-2010 and newer support up to 8GB of RAM as listed by Apple

The type of memory they use is DDR3 1066MHz 204-Pin laptop style memory

There are two memory slots for a combination of 2x1GB or 2x2GB depending on your model

The memory upgrade to 8GB requires 2x4GB memory sticks in place of your existing ones

To do the install note the location of the dot marking on the base, and the two corresponding dots on the undercarriage of the Mini. Simply rotate the base about a quarter inch from dot to dot and simply lift the base off. From there the memory is exposed. Now gently seperate the metal tabs on either side of the memory stick, one at a time, and rotate the memory upwards until it releases. From there simply repeat the previous steps in reverse order and your all set to go with a newly upgraded Mini.

Hello existing and future customers!

In general the mail functionality within snow leopard server is trouble free, however sometimes the default configuration needs tweaked. In this case Apple decided to have snow leopard server reject all e-mail messages which do not contain a subject line. While I think the world would be a better place if we required users provide a subject, in the real world this will result in angry users.

You’ll know you have this problem if you get the following bounce back message.

#550 5.7.1 empty subject header ##

To fix this problem you need to change your mail server configuration.

nano /etc/postfix/custom_header_checks

and turned:

/^subject: *$/ REJECT empty subject header in /etc/

into:

#/^subject: *$/ REJECT empty subject header in /etc/

You should be all set!

Cheers!

This will allow you to configure an additional IP address under the new interface you just created.

To test and make sure everything is working, I recommend running an issuing an ICMP ping from a remote host. You can achieve this under OS X by opening “terminal” and typing “ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx”. You can press CNTL+C to end the test.
